Police given discretion on COVID-19 hotspot travellers without PCR results as testing queues balloon

Queensland police will be able to use their discretion when processing interstate hotspot arrivals who do not have a negative PCR test from the past 72 hours.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) says officers will only randomly screen passengers at airports to check compliance with border restrictions.

That includes proof of a negative PCR test result from within the previous 72 hours for hotspot travellers as well as a Queensland border pass and proof of double vaccination.

It comes as wait times for test results have ballooned out to days in many states, resulting in travellers missing their flights.
