More than 27,000 regional Queenslanders are at risk of having their elective surgeries delayed once COVID-19 cases emerge across the state, particularly in areas where vaccination rates are low.

The latest data released by Queensland Health, current to September, shows 27,893 people are waiting for elective procedures in regional areas, including close to 10,000 category one and two surgeries, which are considered the most urgent.

Another 29,450 people are waiting for surgery across Greater Brisbane, including 3,640 at Queensland Children's Hospital.
