MG Corporation, which represents the Miriwoong and Gajerrong people, is the second-largest landholder in stage two of the Ord Irrigation Scheme, located near the Northern Territory border.
The MOU will see the two organisations work together to investigate the feasibility of cotton growing trials on two parcels of MG's Goomig farmland, known as Lots 15 and 16.
Executive chairman Lawford Benning said the partnership was an important first step towards the group's plans to pursue commercial agriculture.
"MG Corporation is currently very focused on realising our economic potential, so that we can generate income from our land to fund social programs to benefit our community," he said.
"We are open to exploring new ways to derive income, and are keen to partner with companies that can work with us to achieve our goals.
"We are also committed to creating sustainable opportunities for MG people, and agriculture may be an employment and training pathway in the future."
