IN TWO years Taj Jones has transformed from an up-and-coming triathlete to one of Australia's most promising cycling talents.
A week into 2019 the 19-year-old former Nanango resident, who now lives at the Sunshine Coast, has competed in two Australian national cycling championships.
He is a new signing for the Australian Cycling Academy this year and will race in the colours of the Pro Racing Sunshine Coast team.
Identified as a sprinting prospect, Jones crossed the line in 14th in the 33 kilometre under-23 criterium on Friday.
He then lined up in the 127km U23 road race around Victoria's Mount Buninyong and was one of 77 riders who did not finish the race.

The team made a name for itself in their inaugural season in 2018 competing in 10 countries, recording 94 podium finishes and claiming 54 wins.
He will be looking to make the most of the opportunity with his new team.
"Last year I was going up against the ACA guys, now I'm going wow, I'm with them,” Jones told the Sunshine Coast Daily.
"Just the structure of the team and it being local made perfect sense.
"The facilities are amazing and I know it will help me improve.”
