Looking for a beach getaway not too far from home? We look at which coastal areas offer the best value or continue to appreciate.
Sydney Whoever named the sleepy coastal town of Copacabana two hours' drive north of Sydney had clearly never travelled to its namesake, one of the wildest neighbourhoods of Brazil's Rio de Janeiro.
"Most of the people who come to Copa aren't looking for the nightlife, they are looking for a peaceful family holiday," says selling agent Tim Woodham of George Brand Real Estate.

During the last few months an international buyer set a record after stumping up $18 million for a luxury home.
Tom Offermann, a selling agent in Noosa's prestige property market, says that Noosa attracts holiday-home buyers who are there for the lifestyle. "They're not buying [in Noosa] because of the yield. They buy for their family and what the location offers as a holiday destination."
Within a short distance of the centre of town, popular attractions for families and holidaymaker include Noosa Main Beach and its well-known surf club, the shopping and dining precinct of Hastings Street and the walking trails around Noosa National Park.
